The purpose of the Camouflage SOP is to reduce the physical signature—visual, IR thermal, and radar—of the infantry battalion in order to avoid being observed and targeted by the adversary.

Our adversaries now integrate ISR sensors, especially UAS, with long-range precision fires—artillery, rockets, and missiles. Marine units must ruthlessly reduce their signature. Positions must be small, dispersed, well-camouflaged, and temporary.
