300 Assaults: The Rifle Squad Assault as Part of the Platoon Attack
by Brendan B. McBreen
What can a simulation teach us about the assault? What techniques work best? What tactics? What decisions are required? Every tactic is simple when drawn on paper, but surprisingly complex when facing a thinking enemy on actual terrain.
Where can we learn about the assault? In a simulation. We conducted 300 assaults. The repetition and results provided tremendous insights on pinpointing the enemy, overwhelming him with suppressive fire, reading the terrain, and advancing by fire and movement.
